FAQs About Solar Panel Prices in Singapore

Is it worth getting solar panels?

Arrow pointing down

Give Singapore's abundant sunshine, supportive government schemes, and the long-term financial and environmental benefits, solar panels are generally a worthwhile investment, especially for landed property owners. While the upfront cost may be significant depending on your chosen plan, the long-term savings, increased property value, and contribution to sustainability make solar panels an attractive option for many Singaporean homeowners.

Are there subsidies for solar panels in Singapore

Arrow pointing down

No direct cash subsidies or rebates are currently offered to homeowners for installing solar panels in Singapore. Instead, a solar net metering scheme compenstates them for the excess energy they generate, encouraging solar adoption.

The main schemes available for homeowners are the Simplified Credit Treatment (SCT) scheme and the Enhanced Central Intermediary Scheme (ECIS).

  • Simplified Credit Treatment (SCT): Only applicable to homeowners buying from SP Services, this scheme pays for surplus solar energy at the prevailing SP Group electricity tariff minus grid charges (typically about 20-25% of the tariff). This means homeowners receive roughly 75-80% of the retail electricity rate for each kWh exported.
  • Enhanced Central Intermediary Scheme (ECIS): Applicable to homeowners (and businesses) buying from OEM retailers (with systems under 10 MWac), this scheme allows homeowners to sell excess at the average wholesale market price via SP Group.

Do solar panels come with a warranty?

Arrow pointing down

Yes, solar panels in Singapore typically come with two types of warranties – product warranty and performance warranty. Product warranties last 10-25 years on average, while performance warranties last about 25 years.

These warranties typically cover 1-to-1 replacements of physically defective equipment. However, labour costs associated with the replacement work are often chargeable.

*We recommend arranging at least one maintenance visit per year to ensure the longevity and effectiveness of your solar panel system.
